What good leveling looks like on a phone
Grinding gets a bad name, and usually it deserves it. Too many mobile RPGs pad their runtime with repeat fights that exist only to slow you down. The good ones make leveling feel like a reward instead of a wall.
The difference is choice. When a skill tree branches in ways that change how you play, every level matters. Emberfall Saga nails this — I respecced twice just to see how a different build handled the same boss.
A fair curve also means you rarely need to farm. If you play the content in front of you and you're roughly on level, the game should keep pace. The moment a title forces you to replay old zones, it's telling you it ran out of ideas.
My rule of thumb: if leveling up makes me want to try something new, it's good design. If it just unlocks a bigger number, I start checking the exits.
